The work presented in this case study was undertaken across 2012-2014 as part of a Department of Energy-funded research project (DOE Award # DE-OE-0000194) led by The Center for the Commercialization of Electric Technologies (CCET).
Nearly a decade after this project began, the research and results remain unique and important. With President Biden’s and the United States auto manufacturers’ recent commitments to transitioning to full vehicle electrification by 2050, this research is more relevant today than when the report was originally released in 2015.
The research highlighted in this paper provides critical insights into consumer behavior, EV and EV charging optimization opportunities, and opportunities to knit together the seams of smart grids and smart homes through simple utility programs and procedures. Pecan Street is releasing the results of this project as a case study in 2021 to inform the development of policies that support these climate commitments that would also have the impact of equitable distribution of benefits and cost-effective resource investments.
